3 Ways to Thank Your Donors on Valentine’s Day
3 ways to create meaningful moments this Valentine's day

This Valentine’s Day, beyond showing love for your partner, let's celebrate by showing some love to those who make your work possible, your donors! Here are three ideas to help get your creative love ideas flowing.
Here are some ways to reach out to your donors this Valentine's Day with a personalized video.
1. Share a personalized video with your widows
Valentines Day for those without someone can be pretty lonely. So take this opportunity to lift the spirits of those experiencing isolation. I remember working at North Dakota State University and creating a targeted Valentine’s Day card for all those we had marked as “widowed” in our database. It can mean so much more to someone who has lost their partner to be thought about on a day like February 14th.
Another example of something I did with a major donor who had lost her husband the previous year was I sent her flowers. This was the first Valentine’s Day without her spouse, and I knew that it would be an especially tough one. Think about what matters to your donors on special days, and surprise them!
2. Target your alumni & donor couples
I remember my professor in Sociology 101 telling the class that college was just a large dating pool where most people left with a significant other. Each campus has special spots, treasures, or memories where couples met, proposed, or got together. For my University, it was the “Heart of Northern” which was a heart shape made of flowers, a common spot for engagements or first dates.
Find old photos (maybe something they would remember), them at a Gala, event, board meeting, stories, or trinkets and share them with your couples, and lift up your love for them on Valentine’s Day.
3. Will you be my Valentine?
I am not actually asking you to be my Valentine, but you could send out a message via Gratavid with a video from your CEO, Executive Director, a student or client asking them to be your organization’s Valentine.
Imagine a handful of videos, clip after clip, saying thank you and ending with a testimonial on the love the donors provided to the recipient.
Shower your donors with love, and how you love that they help support your work and cause. A simple background of hearts, with someone sending a heartfelt (pun intended) message, is perfect. Keep it short, sweet, and thoughtful. Showing up on days like this is important, and when you put your donors at the center of your plan and send meaningful touchpoints, they will truly feel appreciated. Keep on thanking!
